Artist Statement
Through my practice, I attempt to bring humanity into art and theatre. It is ever important to me to tell the stories of real humans by exploring the lightness or darkness they bring, how they respond to the pressures that live around them, and the other strange intricacies of their personal life. I am concerned lately with understanding the authenticity and validity of my own deep emotions. In my practice, I allow myself to act on my emotions and impulses to the fullest. I create aggressively when I’m down, with hostility when I’m angered, and with control when I’m content. In my work, I find importance in creating work that is informed by who I am and where I’ve come from.
"You were given that pain and that vision because you have something to do with it."1 Art inherently takes inspiration from its maker, and an artist allows their practice to be biased by their own experiences. I attempt to inform my work with who I am and who I have been, exploring my own childhood, relationships, self love, family, and other influences. As a young adult, I am actively working to understand the landscape of my life and the world I live in, and I aim to explore this through my work. I feel an urgency in telling the stories of the real world, current and past, even through mediums like the abstract and the fairy tale. When I create work, I aspire to center my work on humanism and inform them by my own experience. I intend to evoke a passion for creating and translate my deeply expressive emotions into my practice.
